I reckon summer ends after my birthday. ;)
When the schools go back is the beginning of the end. But when the Proms are over Summer's well & truly gone!
Autumn digging, seed catalogues & making Christmas cards from then on....
when the windowsills start filling up with dead daddylonglegs
Summer must be over for me because I'm off to the picture to see 'Rockn&Rolla' and not to the lotty :)
july 2007 ;)
When I was tecahing it was always the end of the school holidays. This year I think it will be when my daughter goes back to uni :( A couple more weeks to go.
When is it over...............I am still waiting for it to start! :( ;)
Next Thursday....

When I bake my Christmas cake ~ I bought the ingredients yesterday so the moment is imminent!
End of October, end of our caravan season.Sad when we have to put all the outdoor stuff away.
Then start thinking about Christmas,I love it :)
When I get up in the morning and its dark and the towels are still damp from the night before. ;D ;D ;D

'tis upon us once again, a lovely summer this year and a good season (I hope it was a good season for all of you too) time to have a sing along, front door open wide and give the neighbours a treat ;D
Ninny
It has mostly been a great summer, well better than last year anyway.
End of summer still the same for me as in 2008 LOL ;D

Understood Betula, just hope you'll be joining in the singalong too though ;)
But of course NInns ;D
Lovely day here in sunny Enfield, apart from a short shower of rain. Up on the allotment in a T shirt and enjoying it. September is often a lovely month, so no winter for me yet, but will still go out in the rain, snow etc with my new pink Wellington Boots. I hate staying indoors. October is often OK, November I don't like. :( :( :( Apart from a good bonfire to burn all the rubbish at the plot, without neighbours moaning about the smoke. ;D ;D ;D
Borlotti we have autumn to do yet, winter is weeks away ;D Vocal chords at the ready?
Ninny
When they put the evening lights on the ski slopes over on the mountain from me.
XX Jeannine
The real start of Autumn is the autumnal equinox. From then until the Spring equinox, more hours of dark than light. :( ???
The only good thing about Christmas is that we have passed the Winter solstice, and its all getting lighter, and we can start growing again. ;D
Last Night of the Proms tomorrow sets us on the slippery slope.
Need to start clearing out the greenhouse of tomatoes, etc. :( :( :(
valmarg
And sweet dreams about what to grow next year.......................... :)
Xmas is definitely upon us, Morrison's have taken the back to school stuff off the shelves, this week the mince pies have appeared. Gardening department reduced to a few Fly Killer sprays and the barbecue stuff reduced to clear. Christmas cards are on sale and as soon a halloween and bonfire night are past the baubles and tinsel will be with us.

Oh definitely, what went wrong this year will be soo much better next year. And the thing to really look forward to, the new catalogues will be dropping through the letterbox any day now.
We've had good, very good and disappointing. But next year we are going to have all good. ;D
I am getting a twinge of sadness, because some of the tomatoes are past their best, and do need rooting out. Hey ho,
valmarg
Out of puff now.............here's to a lovely autumn, some winter crops, and to next spring.

I liked the arrangement of the national anthem. Not the usual one.
I was not keen Val,could hardly hear it.
Did I miss the sailors hornpipe ??
when I have to keep the back door closed while cooking :)
Summer will be over for a while in a couple of weeks time when I venture up to the frozen wastelands for a fortnight staying around the lake district. Then it will warm up again until the middle of November when it starts getting chilly at night. But instead of changing into longjohns I will disappear and fly south to the Canaries for a while, come back at Xmas. then 3 weeks after that it will be the start of spring. Unless the weather buggers it up again ;)
Well I'm still in shorts and t shirts so not for a while yet, although the OH has put the rads on, I just turn them off when she's not looking. ;D ;D ;D
When the weedy type of Michaelmas daisies start to flower I know its count down time.

Home from the Great Dorset Steam Fair - pull up the drawbridge winter is on it's way!
Thought of another couple. When runner beans are running out, and when you need to clear the greenhouse of tomatoes. :( :(
I also agree with shirlton, 22nd September. Autumn equinox. More hours of dark, rather than light until the Winter solstice. :'( :'(

The end of August was very cold abd miserable but it is hard to think that summer is nearly over. It has been a lovely day wall to wall sunshine. Ocutber can sometimes be very nice. One year about 1987 the warmest day of the eintire year was in October. But looks like it is downhill from now on.
when bare legs are no longer an option.

Blimey mate is it going to be that cold up there. I was of a mind to get two or three of those northern wenches to keep me warm at night for a couple of shillings, but then I realised they will be smothered in goose fat and sewn into their underwear for the duration. They could be a bit whiffy by then. Still I could take a couple of bottles of brut to splash all over. No, second thoughts on that, It might make them a bit too much lustful. ;)

Or fresh-from-the-garden raspberries, strawberries, sweetcorn... although no courgettes either so the glass is both half full and half empty...

Too true Chriscross. I do prefer a glass half full, but it's getting close to half empty. ???
I thinlk we all have to face the fact that the bountiful months are drawing to a close. ???
