Title: dividing rhubarb

hi
divided my plant 3/4 seasons ago.
question is when it becomes dormant do ineed to dig out the whole root or can i just spade a lump off??

if you're splitting an established crown, take a large piece, leave it outside, on the ground 'till january, then bring into a shed or unheated greenhouse, keep dark, (no light at all), you'll have an extra early crop from this piece of crown. after it's cropped, plant and it will grow away ready for the following year. ;)
