I haven't for some years. I used a Good Housekeeping recipe as the basis for it, but apparently it's been dropped from more recent editions as being too unhealthy! - although of course one can pour off excess fat as cooking progresses, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Found this on the net which looks quite nice - though I'd probably add some pork or veal mince to the beef

I make it on quite a regular basis, recipe I use is: minced pork and beef, softened onion and celery, bread crumbs, an egg, quite a "dollop" of tomato ketchup and some chilli sauce (optional) mix the lot in the food mixer (or by hand I suppose), shape in to a christmas pud type shape and bake in a baking tray for 1 1/2 hours-ish depending on size. I never weigh/ measure the ingredients so just adjust to suit your taste.

Hope that helps.  :)

Before you bake it, fry a spoonful so you can adjust the seasoning ;)

If you go to "delia online" and search for "american meat loaf" there is a recipe I have used and would recommend.  It makes quite a big loaf so you can have if cold afterwards as well.

A pig's trotter helps a lot but you need a really tame butcher to get one these days.

Usually available from one of our local "proper" butchers at 40p each - in box marked Dog Treats.  ;)

Good for you, Wilko.  Are they all snapped up, or do you get left with some on your hands?
