Title: HAPPY TALK
Post by: betula on September 01, 2008, 20:26:31
My youngest grandson who is three in November has been very slow with his speech, this has obviously been a cause for concern.

Today he came to visit us and it as if he has suddenly got it.He has been calling me nan nan all afternoon and joy of joys he is calling my daughter mummy...........lots of baby talk still but lots of correct words. He is battling with the word grandad...........calling Jim bigman oh and he has got the word Daddy. He has been chattering away all afternoon, what a delight.

Anybody else with GOOD news? :) :) :)

betula. So pleased for you, his talk must be music to your ears. Had the same problem with daughter no 1, they even did tests to make sure she wasn't deaf. Even at the age of 4 if she said "ish" it either meant sweets or shoes :) Boy oh boy once she started speaking properly there was no stopping her!!!!

Betula, my youngest was/is the same.  He's 3and a half now and didn't say a thing until he was two and a half.  I took him to speech therapy and I was so worried, but over the last 9 months he's just come on leaps and bounds.  I think he just waited for his brother (who's a real chaterbox) to go to school before he HAD to talk ... before he just let his brother answer everything for him!

Makes me worry (with hindsight) about these new early learning targets they are bringing in ... the last thing anyone needs is some government jobsworth preaching what they should do and when!  After all, they are all different, aren't they?

 ;D

My little friend, aged two, didn't have many words. He didn't fancy any of the ones we use, so invented his own. My favourite was "Turbits" an all-purpose word which could mean almost anything!

To this day I privately call something I don't know the name for a Turbit.

;D

Kids.  Gotta love 'em.  You are desperate for them to say their first words..... then once they do they spend the rest of their childhood being told to shut up, keep quiet,  don't back chat,  stop being cheeky...... ;D ;D ;D

Call used to ask for a 'cug', mix of a hug and a cuddle  ;D
