Title: NEW ORLEANS
Post by: betula on August 31, 2008, 22:22:48
How awful for these people to have to leave their homes yet again.

Hope it is not going to be as bad as they fear. :(

Having seen the UK weather forecast for the next week, it's not pleasant, plenty of rain and wind, but nothing like as bad.

N'orleans is the one place Id love to visit in the States.

I hope they all stay safe and listen to their congressman about leaving the area.

Looks like its weakening now a little though - yesterday they were predicting 165mph winds, now its only 120mph. I have a nasty feeling this maybe being used as part of an election campaign....also why have they given it a Russian sounding name  ;D

Looks like the one behind it, Hanna, is going to go up the West florida coast, which somtimes leads them to head back across the atlantic towards us - so the weather might be crap at the end of the week.. ???

On a different forum I use, there's a lady who was caught in the middle of Katrina 3yrs ago so she did the sensible thing and moved herself and her immediate family away from Orleans (not too far but far enough to be safe should it ever happen again)  She begged her extended family to do the same but they didn't want to know but now of course ...... she says she's now being inundated with requests from the family to come and live with her to escape Gustav.  She's not a happy bunny, LOL

I don't know wasting all that money on holidays I know where I would rather be. Right here, I don't have to chase the sun. It chases me.

Just check out the snippet about Shanklin, Isle of Wight, we would actually beat them here in Cowes but we can't see the point in measuring something we take for granted. Let them bask in the glory while we just bask in the sun.

But! I am coming over to the north island this weekend for a while so I will bring it with me, after all they need a break from it here.

I would constantly be worried if I lived in any place that was below sea level.   :'(

Now see where you went wrong. If you had came to Cowes instead those two days of rain would not have happened. Yes Shanklin is a beautiful beach especially the end where the locals go,see photo. Not the Grockles  end next to the purifying plant.

Grockles = minging holidaymakers.

Husband and I used to holiday on the IOW every year.  We loved it (as did our son until he grew up and didn't want to come away with us anymore!) It's a beautiful place.  We mostly stayed in Shanklin but tried to visit every nook and cranny of the Island each time we went.

              in East Cowes?

Now I have been having a bit of light banter with you. But now you have turned nasty accusing me of being in East Cowes ;)

We have a saying on our side of the river. If the world  had piles, that's where they would be.

If you saw somebody with vegetables on a bike near the Waverly Pikey park, he must have been a thief known as the terrible tattie taker making his getaway from  the kingston allotments. ;D
