Title: What to plant now (again)
Post by: Maidenheadtaff on August 29, 2008, 16:00:59
I have bought a load of seeds at Wyevale the 50p variety fantastic value and wonder if i can plant any now as i know i have asked previously if i can plant anything in Aug/Sept

I bought

Carrots- Maestro and new red intermediate
Parsnip- Gladiator and Albion
Savoy- January King
Cabbage - Kalibos and Tundra
Turnip-Snowball
Swede-Marian
Beetroot-Kestral
Brussell-Cromwell and Falstaff

I know the packets say plant out in May/June so is it really worth trying to plantthem now or should i be getting sepcific Autumn veg that i guess i would order on line as Wyevale and alike doen't seem to do

I've just put random carrots in and they look to be doing well - doubt that they'll make it to full size but I'll just behappy with a nice quick crop of baby carrots before the weather goes.

I did beetroot at this time last year and they did well.

Likewise the turnips that I put in last month are going well: baby turnips again.

I think that you might be a little late for sprouts and parsnips, but with the limitted life of parsnip seeds I guess you'll not lose too much by trying.
