You been sneaking into my garden overnight & taking pics, Trinity? Cos that's exactly what I saw this morning, too. 8 tom plants in tubs and I've cut down 3....hey ho! just 5 more to go :-[

btw please.....is it OK to merely put the soil on the compost heap? I've not had blight before so this is new territory for me. Thanks.

I would also like to know what tomatoes are resistant to blight.  Have put Ferline on my list but does it taste good, or is it for cooking.  My Gardeners World seem OK but all the plum, Italian type tomatoes seem to have affected more.  I think you have to burn it as that is what the expert, in tears, as he lost all his was doing on the allotment even though not allowed bonfires until October.  There is certainly a lot to learn about caterpillars on brassicas.  Thought things just grew but only one pear on my tree and orange on the leaves.  Do they have this problem on commercial tomato sites, or they all indoors.  Do they have it in Italy or spray with chemicals.  I am still learning. Have learnt that birds just love figs.

i don't have enough space to grow my potatoes in my vege beds so do so in barrels, etc, i put the spent soil in my ornamental garden rather than in my compost bin/ on vege beds regardless of signs of blight or not, i hope this helps reduce the risk of overwintering potatoes spreading blight to next years crops. and though i grow my toms outside in the vege beds i don't compost the plants i burn them when i clear them, again regardless of whether they showed signs of disease or not as a precaution. i can be lax with tidying up in autumn but not with the potato containers/ tom plants, i wash out the containers with a mild disinfectant and use the same thing to wipe my tomato canes, all the plant foliage and ties go onto the burn heap. last year was terrible but this year so far so good no signs of the dreaded bight, the toms are finally started to ripen and a few that we picked a little to early was lovely but not yet fully ripe but we couldn't resist :-[.

...you're right! Hygiene is everything. The soil I'll throw into the shubberies, then - don't 'do' ornamental borders, me. Just so surprised at how quickly blight strikes, tho.

After blight last year (in the garden) I was lucky enough to have the use of next door's skip. Bagged up the plants then put them and the soil in the skip. I don't think blight survives in soil, but didn't want to take any chances.

Ok I know it's probably inevitable but could someone please confirm if blight or not?  I have very strong suspicions that it is and I've got rid of the worst affected plants - looks like I've lost at least half so far which is about 15 plants   :'(

I've looked at the pic on the link above and I have to say I think it is, but if someone with more knowledge could confirm I'd appreciate it.

I've had the same problem with the dreaded blight  :'( wiped out about a dozen plants last weekend, GH toms and Gardeners delight in pots so far OK  :-\

I spent most of the week making chutney, and green tom soup for the freezer, I had kilos of the things, still took my mind off the courgettes, and what next to do with them  ;D

My remaining 5 in the outdoor tubs bit the dust yesterday :'(

Actually, because all the 8 plants were 'gifted' cherry toms and nothing at all special taste-wise, I'm not weeping the bukkits I would have been had they been tigerellas etc....still don't like it that blight struck, tho.

In the 'house all the toms are still doing well, except that....more green tomatoes!....2 laden branches of super marmande snapped under the weight of the fruit..

....and I DON'T LIKE green tomato chutney - what to do ??? ::) :)
