Congratulations, hope you love it and get as much relaxation out of it that I do.  You will meet some really, really nice people as they are very friendly on allotments and not materialistic and you do not have to dress up or wear make-up to dig.  (God, hope you are a lady, if not ignore). Advice, buy a waterproof coat and gloves and enjoy.  Sun is out here today so must go and have a quick check of mine.

CONGRATULATIONS  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Now you can get down to work in earnest.  Don't forget the before during and after pictures, and don't try to do too much at once. You need to relax from time to time (keep a chair there to sit on) and admire what you have done.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I took on my second plot on the site last May. First one (2 years ago)  I have dug out patiently as a  1/2 plot size against a tall hedge. The second one is also 1/2 plot size but up the hill to get the evening sun.

Suddenly council is not only strimming AND ROTAVATING everyone's new plot with big tractors, but has done all this around the non-marked boundaries of my 2nd plot.

So I have spent this afternoon banging in stakes and string to define what I think my boundaries are. Petty or what? But I don't want to exhaust myself cultivating areas that someone else might claim as theirs.

I  have dug and planted my first bed today ;D ;D ;D ;D so I  have 12 (late)  sprout plants (to many I know but we do eat a lot of sprouts my five year old lives on them ::)) the ones I have in pots at home are starting to get sprouts on already going to plant cabages tomorrow and start taking some of the things I have in pots down to the Lotty  I will probably leave a lot of them in the pots as some are well established  but am going to put the pots on top of the weed supersant fabric I have to go down, as there seems to be a big shortage of  rock and stones  ??? but lots and lots of clay think I could make plant pots with some of it :o
the glass that was on my sisters plot was owned by the previous occupant who sadly only had the plot for 3 weeks and passed away (over two years ago) so (although a lot seemes to have disappeared over the last couple of days ??? ) the rest has been moved to the back of my plot and will hopefully make two small cold frames ;D ;D ;D one each ;D

PS I am totally knacked after 8 hours of digging with 3 kids in tow (they helped well the youngest helped by trying to eat snails ::) well I have to get rid of them some how :o but very happy and photographs will be on soon as I need to pay subs and work out how to put them on ::)

That's great news. I'm sure you will make good use of your plot  :)

As for your youngest trying to eat snails, well, if they mean it you can take them (the snails) home and starve them for 24 hours and cook them with garlic, butter, herbs and breadcrumbs.  ;)

Most of our garden snails are edible and with a few nice veg from your plot you have a complete meal.  ;D

Trinity that is the best news I have heard all year.
If anyone deserves to get it it was you.
I have been following your original thread from the start and really felt for you at times.
If ever anyone set a good example of perseverance, I have not seen a better one than yours.
I will have a drink to celebrate now.
Good luck

Congratulations, now the fun bit begins! It's a good time of year to take one on in my experience, you can take your time over getting sorted out. You can plant some garlic and overwintering onions in October/November, still time for some brassicas if you buy in seedlings as well. Good luck! ;D

Congratulations! Look forward to hearing about your successes (and failures!)

But 8 hours digging in one go sounds a lot. Don't overdo it now!

Great news Trin,  as everybody has said no one deserves it more than you, after all the chasing, phone calls, letter writing and fence climbing, its just nice to see some positives for a change. Take your time and don't put in too many 8 hrs, a bit at a time and concentrate on getting ready for next season as Deb says get some ground ready for o/w onions and garlic. What site did you get on in the end and I bet you get offered a plot on another site it always seems to happen like that, best of luck and three cheers for Trinity hip hip.   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I got a plot on the Seaton station site. Having a day off today as  I need a rest and it is raining

My sister came down with me yesterday and we got the back third of my plot cleared and another bed dug and planted with broad beans and corjets that I had in pots that where to small for them.
We have decided that we are going to cover her plot with black plastic for now and sort mine first.

The soil is very heavy clay and I will have to add a lot of organic material to it before it is good  and maby some sharp sand as well :-\ ??? it is very compacted with a serious lack of earth worms so I am going to dig some up  out of my moms garden to put in my beds. (But my mom dose not know this yet :o)

we think we can fit in 24 beds between the two plots and we are going to put a shed on one and a green house on the other ;D

My mom told me last night that she has never seen hard work make any one so stupidly happy :o :o

I will take my camera down again tomorrow to show what progress I have made

Went to the plot today by myself with all three kids and was expecting to be pulling my hair out by the end off the day but surprisingly they all behaved very well  :o

for most off the day there was only us in our section of the site so there was none for them to bother any way

They made mud pies and looked for bugs and played in the Wendy house and a 3 30 when I told them we where going home (we left the house at 8) they begged to stay so we stayed till 6 so it seemes like they are enjoying having an allotment as much as mummy is ::) ;D

forgot to take my camera so pic,s will be taken tomorrow ;D ;D ;D

;D I picked my first crop today ;D ;D ;D ;D it was only 30 or so cherry bell radishes but even so I was so existed I was last there on sunday (missed a few days rain and my sons birthday) and I knew they would be some ready ;D Told every one i have talked to today ::) ::) ::)
