Post by: Crystalmoon on August 21, 2008, 15:00:12
Due to terrible wet weather & heavy rainfall I havent sown my swede seeds that say sow by the end of July
has anyone had any success sowing later than this? If so did you sown indoors tham transplant or sow directly? Thanks

I never had any swede when i did direct sowings.  Last year and this year,  I have had about 95-100% since sowing my swede indoors then transplant as plug-plants.

Get them sown indoors now,  in a propagator if possible to speed things up, but don't worry if you cannot.  They should still be fine, possibly a little smaller but you will still get a harvest :)

I did this last year, and as KT says, smaller, but a harvest indeed ;)

We sowed swede "Marian" from Simpsons Seeds in first week of August.  Has rained pretty constantly since then but we have the seed leaves and first tiny true leaves forming........... we will see.

Always worth a try ;)
