Title: Can anyone give advice on wardrobe door, please?
Post by: KittyKatt on August 21, 2008, 10:21:19
We recently bought a new wardrobe for the bedroom. It was flat packed and after it sat in its box for a couple of weeks, OH put it together. however he has now gone on holiday, leaving me to sort out the final tweaks. Its a 3 door wardrobe, with drawers at the bottom. The main problem is that the middle wardrobe door is catching on the drawer below, so I can't open the drawer without the door opening as well. I have checked the position of the drawer and its sitting on its runners properly, so I guess the problem is with the door. Looking at it, the door appears to need to be raised by just under 1/2 cm. Can anyone advise how I should go about this, please? Or would it be better if I waited until I can persuade a friend who's handy to do it for me? I think its something to do with adjusting the screws, but I'm not sure which one(s) or which way to turn them! This may sound hopeless, but I'm scared of the hinges or even the door coming off (it's happened to me before!) and I don't think I could get the door back on by myself, but I do have the correct screwdrivers to hand.
Many thanks
KK

Maybe loosening the screws on the hinges, getting somebody to hold the door up and then tightening them up again would help.
The type of hinges on flatpack furniture usually have adjusting screws.

It could also be that the wardrobe isn't square, are the other doors ok?

Thank you for the advice, The other doors seem to be ok - they don't stick or obstruct the drawers at all, so I guess the wradrobe must be reasonably square. I think I am going to leave it for now, as I don't feel up to taking to door off by myself - I've done it before, and I couldnt get it back!!!!

Thank you everyone. ACE, I loved it!! I have checked the drawer fronts and they all appear to be the right way up. I will try and describe the hinges, as I still havent worked out how to upload pictures from the camera!  :) There are 3 hinges in total. Each hinge has 2 metal plates, one fixed to the carcass of the wardrobe and the other to the door. Each of these plates is held on by 2 screws, one at the top and one at the bottom. The hinge bit that moves is held in place by 2 screws (one large, the other smaller) that seem to fit into the metal plate on the main carcass. Hope this isnt too confusing!
