This is the sight that greeted me on hearing a strange crackling noise and looking out of the dorma window tonight! The flames whipped along the length of the field in seconds. I have to say I was scared that the wind would change direction and we would have to leave so cats and dog were gathered etc. No quandry about what to take, nothing much. Passports, credit cards, best jewels. In the end the fire was contained with a barrier of soil apparently, by the farmers. Now it appears to be out and hopefully all the folk who were evacuated can return tonight. I'll go and finish ironing now. ;D
What would you take if you had minutes before you had to leave?
Me!
Well said!
Me? The car keys and a small piece of plastic .
Oh and possibly a warm jumper - well it is August!
;D
Husband and dogs ;D
In that order? :)
Been for a dog walk this morning and surveyed the damage. We live behind the hedge so I consider us lucky :o

that was a close call :o
I'll tell you something I would not be taking. Pictures! You would not see my a#s# for dust.
The dog, my other half, wallet and keys!
Me, my man and my dog.
Oh, and my car keys and lottie keys too! ;D
It sounds as if this was done deliberately. I would suggest (unless the culprit is a friend of yours) that you report (with the picture) to the Environment Agency. Burning stubble was banned years ago, thank God.
Larkshall it wasn't stubble. It was an unharvested field of cereal crops. The police were there with the fire brigade all the time and next morning.
Apparently five youths were seen running away but one can't assume. It happens every year around these parts but that was too close for comfort.

Hence my query - Farmers don't usually burn their crops :)
