Hi can anyone help me, in our allotment we have water bins, should I use them even if the water has been there a long time, we do have running water but I think rain water must be better, :-\
Any old water will do for watering as long as it's not polluted. The only exception is hard water, for a few fussy acid-lovers.
Thank you sooooo much ;D
yep agree any water is ok :D
I did read somewhere that if you are using water from water butts the only thing you need to remember is to avoid getting it on the leaves of some plants (squash I think) as it can harbour mildew and other disease spores. Try to water only around the roots of these. ;)
Don't htink you'll be need ing to at the moment ! ;D
no I do not think I need to worry to much at the mo, but you never know the rain might stop, sometime.
I also beileve that you should always water seedlings with tap water as rain water can carry fungal spores which cause damping off.
My spinach seedlings suffered from this earlier in the year. I'd been watering with water from a water butt (didn't know about damping off at that stage)- never again! Very frustrating.
is dampning off, going to seed to quick ?
It's when they start growing really well but then the fungus attacks the stem and they all fall over and die, very annoying!
oh I had heard of it but did not know what it ment thank you for your info ;D
