Title: Damp conditions causing grey mould
Post by: meg_gordon on August 13, 2008, 20:55:42
Hello everyone

Just had a look at my peas, and I have a grey mould on all the leaves.  Did a google search and I think it might be Botrytis cinerea.  Is there anything I could have done to avoid this - this is my first year growing peas.

It may well be powdery mildew  also.

Not much you can do in weather like this except spray nasties on it or get a resistant variety.

Mind you my hurst greenshaft have got it too and they're supposed to be resistant. ???

Just put it down to a rubbish summer and hope next year's is better. ;)

Almost certainly Mildew at this time of year... damp air but dry roots. A good water holding trench and some method of watering under the soil like seep hose can help in dry areas...  :-\

Thanks for feedback everyone.  I dont know if the roots on the peas were dry - I've been watering every day - well every day when it wasn't raining.  Peas dont seem to be affected by it though - had two good pickings so far and lots more fattening up.
