You can always lift them and leave to dry in a greenhouse for a day or two if the weather does change.
when people lift them how long do u leavethem outside for?
Usually when they are ready to harvest, the necks go soft and the stems flop over

2-3 days. Sometimes a little longer. Just enough for them to harden up. When they are first harvested, they can seem a touch soft. If stored soft - they will rot. Shake of all excess soil before leaving to dry. You will be able to feel the difference after a couple of days. ;)
I leave mine for a week or two depending on how the weather has been. I suspect finishing off the drying (after a few days of sun) in a cool dry spot might be a better approach :)
Most of mine have been lifted.
Mine have all mine eaten, especially the red ones.
