If you do not pick them for a while they turn into marrow type thingies. ;D

Picked courgettes on Saturday, then promised father in law (my gardening mate) that I would pick again on Tuesday. Had a load more on Tuesday then on Thursday had a phone call to say that he had picked them cos I hadn't bothered!!
These things never stop growing, please take precautions as the next arrivals could be twins!! ;D
I managed to pass 4 on the other day. Tried to get my daughter Sal to take a couple but she said she had still got 2 from last week. Did manage to con her into a straight necked squash. When she asked if they tasted the same as courgettes I said "No they are entirely different". Well I lied didn't I. Loupy Lou from our site came down to see me the other day and of course went away with a couple too. Probably won't see her for a while eh! lol
Last year my 4 plants produced 49.54 Kg of cougettes
I took most of them to my surgery and the staff took them gleefully together with most of the 31.59 Kg of runner beans.
Maybe I should leave them for the patients in the vain hope that they eat some greens with their fish & chips,and then I might see less of them.

Just got back from 4 days away so expecting another load! Why on earth did I keep four plants this year?!Still, made my first courgette & roast garlic soup of the season on Monday and it was yummy.

thanks for the link will try it this weekend. i have found out you could never have enough recipes for courgettes and i thought :-[ 4 plants would not have created a glut for family of 5 ::).

I had wondered if that was the recipe Caroline, I saw it when I was putting the link to the other one. I have a feeling I made it a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it, so that's two new recipes to use up some courgettes!

Ive made me own bread me own cordial etc. but never made me own soup until last week. It was only avin all the bloomin courgette come marras that made me have a go. You see I dont like throwing stuff away and I couldn't find anyone else to give it to. I just lightly fried the courgettes and onion and garlic and then there was no stopping me. Anything I could lay me hands on went in. A couple of carrots a few mange tout, a few french beans and of course all the tiny little toms with the hard skin. We had it with garlic bread and it was really good. made some more yesterday but had to freeze some(got carried away again) had to use 2 pans,lol
I used marrows, which is what you now have in plum jam. It was some of the best I have ever made.
I'm afraid I've lost the recipe but it was in a great book called "Let's preserve it". Unfortunately the book itself didn't live up to its title and fell apart through use.
