this is my 1st year growing raspberries - they are autmn rasps and are starting to but up with flowers - should i put the netting over them now - or wait till the flowers start to set?
the netting i have is 13mm plastic netting - will the polinators get through to the flowers if i put it on now? ???
In our experience, skyrats tend not to go for autumn rasps very much (compared to summer rasps/tayberries/boysenberries etc) - so we've never needed to net ours 8) touch wood :P
I wouldn't bother netting at all. Autumn raspberries produce such a prolific crop that you can probably afford to let the birds have a few.
yep i agree kathryn ,have never netted my rasps ,plenty for all of us .
yeah here to we had loads of rasberrys in fact we through a lot away
I always net Autumn rasps or there would be nothing left by the birds. Maybe ours are particularly aggressive.
i've found that the fruit tends to be hidden under the leaves, which is a pain when you are picking but also seems to stop the birds getting them.
I have problems with summer raspberries but no with autumn
The deer I tried to fence out have nipped off some of our autumns already- guess I should have netted last week ::)
