Is it where you are? It is amazing how quickly the lawn greens up, and floods again! The air smells lovely and clean. Took the kids to the mobile library this afternoon between showers and the pavements were glistening and you could smell the ozone in the air. Waterbut is nearly full, which is a relief, but don't forget to water your plants in your greenhouse...which is the sort of dumb thing I would do. ;D
Oh EJ it's been raining here in Staffordshire for weeks now. Although we did get a couple of real scorchers at the weekend!
It's really starting to depress me. I'm thinking of redesigning my garden so that it is a water/bog garden. I love rain normally but up here we have had more than enough.
I do agree though, it is as if the world is being cleaned.
EJ it's been raining gently all day today which is welcome after such a hot and dry weekend. Everything smells fresher and it is a little cooler now which is lovely. Hubby got driven outside early this morning in the rain to finish off the connection to my waterbut which was delivered late last week. Nearly full already so am now considering a second waterbut to take the overflow. Have even managed to fool the children into an early bedtime tonight as it's darker and they think it's an hour later than it is! ;D

Jesseveve - Wow! You're good!
Plocket I will pay tomorrow as they'll be up an hour earlier!
Mmm. My two year old has reached the stage where she now needs 11 hours sleep, rather than 12. Rather frustrating when she occasionally virtually falls asleep when eating tea so I put her to bed early, only to have her wander into the bedroom at 5.30am!!!!!
We've had deluges here today, EJ, no piddles but torrents. Haven't heard any thunder tho it was forecast. Think we have had a lot more rain than you over the season.
We had in the region of 2-3 inches in Leeds today over the course of about an hour and a half.
Managed to bring the entire city to a standstill & I ended up walking home as the buses were stuck somewhere the other side of the city centre.
Still - at least I havn't got to water the plants ::)
It's raining, it's pouring!!!
Just managed to get out and grab some potatoes, beans and peas for supper, plus sweet peas for the house, without getting too wet. It was VERY quick!!
At least no watering....and certainly refreshing
;)
It's still raining in Staffordshire. I'm going to develop webbed feet at this rate.
The garden is flooded in two places but thank heavens we are on a high spot. I must take a look at the river later and see how flooded it is. In winter from the upstairs I can see the flood plain through the trees, but at the moment they are rather verdant and block the view!
And the rain keeps coming!
It started yesterday here (somewhere between Essex and London, depending on what mood I'm in!) I awoke to the sound of rain pattering down outside. The noise of it through the open window was glorious. There was also a cool breeze billowing through the curtains. Lovely.
There's a wonderful incongruity between the rain and the colour of the sky and what people are wearing - everyone's still dressed in sandals and summer wear, but it's so dark and gloomy - I just love it.
Before going to the station this morning, I stood by my garden gate and watched all the plants reaching their leaves up to the rain in a silent prayer of thanks to Mother Nature. They all looked so happy and vibrant, it made me so happy.
Am going to have to grow webbed feet at this rate!
sorry guys Cornwall is still lovely and sunny the only light rain we have had was on Sunday afternoon ;D
Sam
Grrr! There's a couple of inches of water immediately outside my front door and the rain shows no sign of stopping. Oh and apparently town is flooded as well. The new flood defences can't cope with this much rain. Humph.
Its not Piddling here in the Scottish Borders it is pouring. We have had rain since yesterday lunch time.
I hate having my house lights on during the day.
On the plus side the rivers are filling up,and i have got my first red tomato ever.
Anne
East Sussex has had stairods this morning, daughter going on a Ranger hike through the countryside, she left not a happy looking camper!! I on the other hand have a smile on my face cos we need it so desperately! ;D DP
Looks like it's just clearing London for now -might not get soaked on my way home tonight ;D.
Still about time -the butts had run dry, and I was having to water at the allotment.
Now the dilemma -the greenhouse watering sytem (sounds grand:) ) runs off the butts, do I use it and hope we get more rain before I go away in 10 days time?
Guess I do, it's free water and we're on a meter. I may be an Essex boy -but it's Yorkshire blood in my veins :D
Jeremy
Still absolutely bucketing down in Edinburgh but have to go to the lottie to water the g'house tomatoes and cucumbers maddening isn't it!
Edinburgh is chock-a-block with tourists for the Festival and it's amazing the assortment of rain protection (or not) that you see on the streets - think some just give up and wear as little as possible so they dry more easily!
Sunny here now. I hope that doesn't mean I'm going to have to water all those pots tonight. But it should at least mean I get to go in the garden this evening. I didn't go out there at all yesterday and I miss it!
Drove to Kent this morning to see my sis, and it tipped it down the whole way! Quite hair raising in places as I passed lorries on the M20. Drove home in glorious sunshine! The lawn is green, the pond is full and the fish are lively! Everything that was starting to look wilted are now upright and glossy again. Waterbutt is full to the brim! Going to drag the kids to the allotment tomorrow as I have a feeling, after all of this rain, there are going to be bags full of beans, and I am dying to see my pumpkins! ;D
;D ;D ;D It's been a lovely sunny day here today! 8) 8) 8)
Torrential rain this morning (garden flooded again) and bright sunshine this afternoon. What on earth is going on?
Same here Plocket, I blame Maggy Thatcher. ::)
Roy ;D
Yep! Quite happy to blame her!
Aye, aye Spurdie, don#t think you will have had the such good weather today - looked pretty bad up your way what with the A9 blocked as well. bit like this I expect

Must get better soon surely.....
Hi Wicker.
Was in Edinburgh yesterday, fighting my way up Princes Street. So many people!!!
Rain held off which allowed me to catch a bit of the street theatre around the mound.
Returned to the Borders for more Thunder Lightning and rain. Anne
Rain - Thunder - Lightning all hit Cornwall last night.
We were watching a film which had thunder and lightning in and we couldn't hear it as outside was to noisy!! Talk about surround sound!! ;)
Sam
Yesterday ws lovely - warm and sunny, but not too hot and humid. Then it tipped it down overnight, so the garden got a good soaking. Just the way I like the weather in summer!
Today is pretty miserable - overcast. I hope it's going to thunder like they promised!
Sunshine and showers in Chelmsford, just as predicted! Pond is full to overflowing and the lawn is squelchy, but I am not complaining, oh no siree! My pumpkins at the lottie are huge and growing by the minute with all this rain! ;D
