Haven't been on forum for a while in case it depressed me too much - broke ankle in mid June, and won't be able to put weight on it until I've had one of the nine (!) pins taken out in August - so there goes my summer! Luckily my allotment neighbour has been an absolute star and has harvested all my onions and garlic for me, but still a bit of a bugger.
well, it hasn't been too much of a summer, here's hoping for a warm, dry august/ september for you ;D
Sorry to hear about your ankle, hope it mends soon.
Lucky you got a neighbour willing to help you out.
What a B****R!
SO sorry. I would offer help, but digging a half row of Potatoes is my limit!
9 pins? Didn't know that you could break an ankle in so many places.
My sister-in-law broke her ankle start of this month. Even though she only fell down a three inch step, it was a really nasty break and she's also got a lot of pins, some of which will be in forever. :(
omg !! sounds very painful hun ((((((((((hug)))))))))))).
The way i look at it is life happens and the lottie will always be there to dig later :)
Nice to have a neighbour to help you out :D
Andy was pinned and wired... but a car did park on his!! ::)
Bupster not long till August. Hope all goes well and you are able to enjoy a few weeks on the allotment, but take it easy. Good luck
Sorry to read about your broken ankle Bupster and hope it's not too long before you are on your feet again.
Hope the ankle mends as quick as possible bupster. Best wishes Suzanne :)
Thanks, all - had a bad few days and your good wishes have cheered me up. :)
Ouch! You poor thing, it must be very frustrating not being able to do anything. Just take great care till it's OK again :) :) :)
I broke my wrist the first year of having our plot and was so frustrated. It must be a lot worse for you not even being able to stand on it. Hope you are soon better
Hey Bupster
Just caught up with the thread, sorry to hear about your troubles. As others have said, August is almost here!
I'm growing on a bit of Jasmine for you - do you still want it?? and I could throw in the rogue Verbena B. that have self seeded this year............
My 39-yr-old son broke his right leg in 2 places with a spiral fracture of tib & fib stepping (sober) off a kerb. He's been on crutches now for 15 weeks and is just about able to put a little bit of weight through it now. Wears a special 'Beckham' boot since the plaster was taken off but you ain't seen frustration till you watch him!!
Having to do all my own harvesting - still, means we keep the best bits!!!!
You have all my sympathies.
Hi Bupster - hopefully your ankle is feeling much better now. :)
just spotted this and just had to post my commiserations as I broke mine last year so know what a horrible feeling it is. Just keep thinking that next year it,l just be history as mine is (never thought I would ever run downstairs again as thats how I did it,but I do
marg
Just spotted it too...commiserations and all the best for the speediest of speedy recoveries, bupster.
And, if I may, same good wishes extended to BizzieLizzie, who was on crutches following a foot op. a while ago - mind you, I knew that was happening & she gotta Consolation Prezzie of Green&Black's Gift Assortment to munch while she watched re-runs on the tele...poor consolation for not being out there doing what you love but...every little helps?
So...if you're in still in need of Comfort Food, let me know! That's what friends are for :)
Got back on allotment today!
Just the four months :D since I broke my ankle. Weeds predictably shoulder-high, but I managed to make a big visible difference in the hour I managed to work before Foot started to complain so loudly that I had to go home (by bus - I can't quite cycle that far yet either!)
Haven't tried digging yet....
Glad you are feeling well enough to get to the lottie now - it must have been so frustrating sitting out the growing season. Don't overdo it though :)
Hi bupster,
Glad to hear you're up and about - don't do too much too soon as it will take a bit of time.
Did mine at 50, 16yrs ago - I slid down a bank and smacked a tree [ don't ask ] ..... have
pins , scews, and a plate - always wanted to set the alarms off at Heathrow but never did !
Used to crawl round the garden when in plaster and have to wash it with Fairy liquid to get the green
off. Will say, ' if you don't use it - you'll lose it ' so keep up with the Physio, i still do my ' rotating '
excercises- don't know why , but it used to stiffen something chronic in the early years [ old bones ].
To encourage you, once well healed my ankle has not stopped me from doing anything -- I dig
away and don't give it a thought.
Just to add, the prognosis wasn't good apparently , and a very soulful surgeon came to tell me
that he ' had done the best he could ' , I shook his hand and thanked him for every thing he'd
done.
He was from Iraq -- and we were at war at the time.

Don't over do it Bup, bit at a time, good luck.. ;D ;D ;D
