love the sunset, summer at last ;D
But what is it called and where is it?
Beautiful shots. Can you imagine building that wall with no machinery??
Burgh Castle, East Norfolk (near great yarmouth, but we don't mention it!)
They built more impressive things than that with no machinery! What do you think legionaries did when there wasn't any fighting on? I don't know about Burgh, but Hadrian's Wall was divided into sections and each section built by a specific unit. They left plaques marked with the names of the units responsible for each.
That's just what I need- some idle legionaires to build me a garden wall.
Where are they when you really need 'em? >:(

Hahahaha! :D We must have a lot of legionaires that made it here then! Pizza on every corner of this university town.
the castle was surrounded by a single wall and enclosed 7 acres. a cavalry brigade was stationed there to protect the river mouth. It's still a great listening and viewing post, views across the marshes are spectacular! (also built a long time before hadrian even existed!) ;)
