Title: New allotments time scale?
Post by: medicinejack on July 21, 2008, 22:01:18
I am arranging for my local council to set up some new allotments in my area. Names have been collected, councillors briefed (and on side) and a letter drafted.

Can anbody shed any light on how long it normally takes for them to complete the process?

I want to nag them, but not be unreasonable/unrealistic.

Nag them, and Nag them again... or it will get shelved... there is no timescale in which they must provide a site even when you have demonstrated a need..

Some councils may think they just have to prove they are in the process of the idea and an stretch it out for months or more.  To get things moving along quicker - what about if you  suggested you were willing to take on a role of committee member such as secretary or liaison / middleman between other plot holders and the council.  Dangling the carrot so to speak - so that the sooner they allocate the space, the sooner people will be off their backs and probably leave them alone and for you to get on with it.

I think it would be a good idea to try to set myself up in a semi official capacity, a title always gets things moving, especially if the holder is persistent. Thanks for the advice.
