i have been on penwortham holme east allotments since 1979 and growing peas was a dodl
but for the last few years around only 10% have germinated..its the same on all the plots
are we buving old seed?
pea tip if mice dig up your peas cut some fine mesh chicken net cut in strips and lay over peas after sowing,,,,,,,,,,it works
plot 115 preston lan cashire ::)
any comments on seed qualty welcome
I plant mine in pots under cover, and put them out when they're a few inches high. That way I get nearly 100% germination. When I started growing them, planting in the open, I got results like yours.
I sow mine in lengths of 12-18" guttering. Almost 100% germination. Just water them and slide the plants into a pre-dug channel. No disturbance to the plant. Perfect.
my potted and planted out peas did not do to well . so i got a new packet of peas soaked them before putting straight in the plott . the new set put straight in seem to be doing ok
yes but you still had to sow twice

yup frealy admit that i im on my second try with the pea
the first crop gave a few but not as planed. all wos not lost as at least three dinners have come from the first try. and there is at least one more dinner picking to go. so yup bad but not too bad , and as ive only had the plott since late march whaaaahhhoo not a bad start
ps: im on my third try on carrots , apparently carrots just do not grow on our allotment .
wahho ive got some . only little thing's but there growing
