Title: Gaura from seed
Post by: caroline7758 on July 21, 2008, 21:28:49
I have grown some Gaura from seed this year and it has grown well but no sign of flowers. Does it usually flower in its first season or will I have to wait?

I think it flowers later in the year. Mine hasn't flowered yet & I bought it last year.

Thanks. There were lots at Hampton Court, but I know the nurserymen there bring everything on ahead of their normal flowering time anyway. But then I saw some in flower in a little nursery near Kendal at the weekend which made me wonder.

My garden plants are just coming into bud, but as they were bought as plants, I don't know if they flower in  the first year.

Mine are flowering and they are from seed which I sowed in March this year.

Good luck with yours  .... but they are worth waiting for.

Did you pinch them out at all, Monika?

Hi Caroline  ..... no, I didn't pinch them out.  In fact I never gave that a thought and. looking at one of them in particular, I realise it would have been far less leggy if I had.

They aren't wonderful, but I'm hoping I'll manage to keep them this winter and .............. next year ;)

I'm interested in trying to grow some gaura next year and will appreciate anything you recommend from your experience this year.
