Title: Potatoe Disease.
Post by: Flunky on July 21, 2008, 08:40:46
While down the lottie at the weekend I noticed my potatoe leaves have "brown" like marks on the leaves. Not a dark brown but light and speckled. I have looked at blight on the net and I dont think it is this. The potatoes themselves are un-blemished. And the stain seems to go along the vein of the leaf and them spread to the tips. As I said its speckled. I havent got a picture. Based on this info any ideas ?

Many thanks

F.

Could it be they are just dying down?

Mine look like that, but its not blight.

You see, thats what i thought. Its just speckled spots. The only reason i asked that i used potatoes from a load I had which started sprouting. They are nadines and they have been in since about end of March. Dont know if they are earlies or what. Just put them in to see what happens. Some have gone yellow and look like they are dying off. i will put into google and see. Thanks.

Any other ideas ?

Have had a look on internet. I dont think its blight. I feel it looks more like a magnesium deficiency ???!!!??.

Now thats what I thought was wrong with mine due to yellow leaves, but turns out I planted second earlies so they are due to die back just now.

I would lift a plant to test the size of them, if happy cut down the halums, leave 10 days then lift them.

I might do that soon.

I know on our site it has been a strange year for potatoes, mainly bad compared to other years where we've all had bumper yields.

I think everyone looks for blight when the leaves suddenly aren't green anymore and seem to be dying back and now with the manure scare too it's made it worse, when I think you can throw in it's not that good a year for potatoes either.

Of course I am only speaking for my site, I don't know how other sites are doing.
