my carrots didn't do at all well when i pulled them they were black at the bottom can any one give me any idea why this happened I'm sorry i cant tell you what type they were or when i planted them as my book is in the greenhouse on the lotty  ::) also the chap on the lotty next to me i think it happened to his as well

Can you see any tunnels? Carrot fly is a real pain!

no they where just black but no tunnel's

Could it be sclerotinia disease? I hope not for your sake! White fluffy fungus growth develops on the roots followed by hard black structures a half inch or more in length. These are the resting bodies of the fungus. This fungus falls off and contaminates the soil, remains dormant over winter and then gives rise to spores which attack plants again in spring. Any affected roots need to be pulled up and burned.
