Title: help wanted with my onions
Post by: bedrockdave on July 15, 2008, 20:05:34
thought some of my onions weren't doing too well this year and today noticed that a few had gone yellow so pulled one up, there were hardly any roots and the bulb was covered with a little white insect , a bit like a minute earwig but white also baby slugs inside :'(
should I pull up all the ones that aren't doing well  to protect the few that are OK or is it too late.
last year was my best year ever with onions... looks like this year is going to be the worst......Oh the joys of allotments

I am afraid your onions have been attacked by onion fly and it is now too late to do anything about it.

Pull the affected ones up before the maggots migrate to adjacent bulbs.

Sorry I couldn't be the bearer of better news.

Mine were devastated by these last year. The good news is that there hasn't been a sign of them this year.
