Post by: jordsbabe on July 13, 2008, 21:41:34
But are there good weeds and bad weeds?

I mean are there any weeds that are actually good because they stop the bad bugs!

It must be my month for stupid questions lol!

A weed is only a plant in the wrong place :D.

But yes there are beneficial weeds, cornflower, field poppy just to name a couple. Any weed need not be a problem and can be great for bees, even dandelion.

You can eat the leaves, grind up the dried root for some 'not so coffee tasting' coffee substitute. As long as you dead head before it sets seed everywhere.

Any plant that produces pollen and nectar will encourage a lot of predatory insects like hoverflies. Which then look for a food source for their young........aphid! Yay :D Lay their eggs and bingo.

This does not include all weeds, as some set seed and explode before you get chance to get them out. Chickweed is one of the worst annuals IMO, although its edible I think its absolutely rank :-X
