Chaenomeles, or as it is commonly known Quince.
You could use the fruits to make quince jelly.

I've just been reading about that, it's very interesting, i didn't realise it was edible hence why i've posted it under the wrong topic lol!
My brother in law wants me to take a cutting or a seed and grow one for him, i did suggest the garden centre but he wants the same variety as mine!
Don't you just love in-laws (preferably known as outlaws ;D)
They are not the easiest plants to grow from cuttings, but nothing ventured nothing gained.

It's normally classified as an ornamental rather than a fruit so you're quite right.
You have plenty of low branches so I would try layering a couple.
Pull a branch down towards a 2-3 inch deep hole in the soil, about 8 inches from the end of the branch.
Fill the hole with soil and weigh down with a stone.
The tip of the branch will continue to grow.
In the Spring, remove the stone and dig down.
Remove the now rooted end and pot on!
If you do two, you have one for you and one for your B-I-L

Layering is the easiest way. Seeds will almost certainly not produce anything like your original as they are mostly hybrids and do not come true from seed.
Thank you I will try that!
Oh I am so jealous, I love quince jelly and am unable to get any fruit now..boo hoo.
