Title: Should I pull my garlic?
Post by: Magnolia on July 13, 2008, 11:46:18
Hi, My garlic has been in the ground since October.  I pulled one bulb yesterday to see how it was doing - it was small but perfectly formed.  About half the size of the bulbs you get in the shops.

Wondering whether I should pull the lot or wait another month to see whether they fatten up.  What do you think?

I could do with planting out my cabbages and brocolli into this space.

The answer will depend on your location and growing conditions. If the tops are still lush and green maybe a couple more weeks could double the yield, but if tops are fading or falling over I would be inclined to harvest them all soon to release the space.

Hmmm they've fallen over - I suspect due to the heavy rain we've had.

Rain shouldn't harm them.

Are they still all green?

Tim - which book is that?  It seems eminently sensible and easy to follow.

Yes the stems are still green.  I'll leave them for a few more weeks.  Thanks for the advice.
