This is the first time time I've tried growing Broad Beans. The variety is a dwarf version of The Sutton and today I had my first harvest. That's right, just the one bean. ;D G x

Ah but I bet it tasted fab! ;)
At least you have a bean from a small pot.
When I left England a week ago I had not had any.
The 8ft x 4ft bed on 1st June had just a few beans that had germinated-

On 1st June I filled in the "gaps" and by 17th June it looked like this-

Never give up!

I can't wait to try and grow broad beans!
Okay I'll count my blessings. It's a 12" pot with four plants in it. I've had lots of flowers but this is the only pod so far. It contained three lovely beans about 1-2cm long and I ate them raw. Delicious. :)

I would recommend planting broad beans in pots in October (Aquadulce) and planting them out in November. I've done that for the last few years and always have a great crop to pick in May/June, before the blackfly notice they are there!
I find it's usually worth starting them in pots, though Aquadulce are so indestructible I usually plant them direct.
I really must get my brain tested, i keep reading this thread as Breast Fed :o
