Title: Squash plants
Post by: Suzanne on July 05, 2008, 10:05:14
All of my squash plants seem to be having a back to front year so far. Last year and in most previous years I have a few male flowers before the females appear. This year all my squash - summer, winter and pumpkins are putting out female flowers with no sign of a male flower about. I have even asked other plot holders and they are seeing the same problem so i can't even pinch a male flower from them to get the squash to set. Anyone else seeing something similar?

Some hybrids only make female flowers I believe- which means more squash. ;D
I have a cuc that produces loads that way.

One of the C.maxima's finally has the start of some male flowers - so as this is the majority of my winter squash all is not lost. The girls will just have to hang on a bit!
