mine were covered in rust, so I picked all the beans yesterday and composted the plants

A good compost heap will create sufficient heat to kill off most things but to be honest, how many of us actually have a compost heap like that?

I would burn the infected plants or take them to my local tip.

Yes I thought I should burn though I will get it again next year, I've had it everyyear so far probably because my plot was converted from grassland/clover and it's very fertile. This year only the last few BB's were affected but still edible. Be planting next years soon!
