Hello to all, my friend and I have had our lottie for two weeks...hip hip hooray!! Having visited your forum a number of times I have decided it was time join in. Our plot has not been worked for approx five years but soil still seems to be good (lots of nettles etc.), we have dug it all over once, removed to old broken down greenhouses and shifted about 40 bags of rubbish, we still have alot to do but we are still so happy that it's ours.
Now for the questions, firstly potatoes, can we plant them for winter and if we can where is the best place to buy?
This is the first of many, hope you don't get sick of me, Applepie :-*
hiya, applepie, nice to meet you, ;D
lots of the seed catalogues are selling seed potatoes for christmas
worth a look on line
Hello to you and your friend. Welcome to A4A. Good luck with your allotment, don't forget to take pics.... before and after. We like to have a nose :) :)
Thanks for your reply's going to check those catalogues now, Applepie
Welcome to A4A ,be nice if you have your own spuds for christmas lunch. :)
I'm ready to be corrected, but I think if you're going for spuds for Christmas, you either need to use containers that can be moved to a frost free environment (not warm, just frost free) or fleece up the plants quite thoroughly. Plant them Late August / September
If you plant some Second Early potatoes now, I think in theory they'll be ready late September (100-110 days?) .
Although they mature faster, I think you have to avoid First Earlies because they are daylight time sensitive.
Look forward to pics.
Welcome to A4A. Where in the world are you?
