Title: More on manure
Post by: dazer on June 28, 2008, 21:30:35
OK now got my supply of horse manure. I'm a bit worried about it there seems to be lots of sawdust in it, when i was digging it i thought at one point it was just sawdust but boy was it steaming so there must be poo in there someware, i know people say it gets hot but i never thought it would get that hot. so do you think this sounds OK it came from our local riding school

It will be fine.  It should not be too fresh.  If you think it needs more time to 'mature',   cover it with plastic or a carpet for a couple of months.

put a load of urine on it and cover with waterproof cover until next spring. this will allow nutrient levels to stabilise and any seeds etc to be killed off by the heat.
Then in the spring just spread it on your beds, worms will do the rest for you!
