Title: Onions blown over by the wind...
Post by: Digger Debs on June 22, 2008, 21:13:51
Hi,

My Onion stems have all been knocked over in the wind, today and many have snapped (so won't be able to right themselves). The onions are looking pretty healthy, and most are a pretty decent size.
Should I lift them now? - what will happen if I don't?
Also- i will leave them to dry off for storing as my book suggests- but can I eat a few right now? Do they absolutely need to dry out?

Any help/suggestions gratefully received...

You can eat them now, and you could keep the least damaged and try to dry them. Many of mine have gone over in the wind too, but as they are over wintered, they are big enough to pull. Not sure what would happen if you left them.

Hope that helps.

A lot depends on the weather. If it is going to be wet long term lift them. dry them and store them. Better still, eat them
