Title: Lady Balfour has gone a bit limp!
Post by: tim on June 20, 2008, 15:28:30
The only variety to sag - hopefully just lack of water? Rain tomorrow. The ground is rock hard.

But not a bad crop for an Early Maincrop.

for me they have to be one of the best tasting and cooking spuds there is and we eat them through the winter but as bought ones from the shop as they are so readily available - so popular are they that there is even a crisp made from them - really great spud

I can't speak for their blight resistance. The first year we grew them they got it!

They do not look big enough to have got to the blight stage.

But the land is yours and you grows what yer likes and gets it when yer wants  it.

All is well. Watered last evening, it rained overnight & they're fine today.

Blight? I hadn't expected it yet - & everything looks so good I woud hate to see it demolished. We're trying T&M's blight resistant collection.

There shouldn't be widespread blight yet, but there have been localised outbreaks. If we get a long spell of wet weather, that's when it may start spreading in earnest. There used to be a site somewhere with maps showing current outbreaks, but I can't find it. There have been no Smith periods locally since 2-3 June.
