I noticed yesterday evening a load of wasps going into a hole in the eaves of my house - there's obviously a nest in there. Now, do I need to do anything about it ? Is it something I can do myself or do I need to get the dutch council in to help ?

we had a wasp nest in our loft 2years ago......THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO TACKLE THEM YOURSELF. :o :o
my husband waited untill November.when it was cold ,he still sprayed with fly killer and then took the whole nest down it was enormous, but really beautiful a work of art.
B B of course any council will come and clear it for you right away
should you want them to,at a price of course.
maybe someone else can tell you,different ways to remove it but
please not this time of year, only professionals.

Lady I was talking to this morning has a nest, she called our council, and their reply was we have no funds left to do this, look in the yellow pages! Going to cost her £46.00 to have it removed this afternoon! Another mate decided to tackle his one in his loft at the weekend, and bought some spray from Asda, which you stand back a long way, and point & spray at the nest. Apparently it covered it in foam, and a couple of hours later has dissolved the nest killing the wasps with it! Don't know if I would be brave enough to do it myself though! :o

I had one right in front of my bedroom window last year(in the eves).Read that they dont come back the next year so i just let them be.Hey presto they didnt come back this year so all's well and i didnt have to kill them.
We had one a couple of years back in our eaves, and it was cheaper and quicker to get a local contractor in that it was to get the council in, who would have probably only called their contractors anyhow! As for doing it yourself......I personally wouldn't, a swarm or angry wasps doesn't bare thinking about!
Thanks for all the replies everyone - They're not bothering anyone at the momoent so I think I'll wait for winter and then seal up the hole they use to get in.
If they come back next year and manage to get in I'll get the professionals in.

we had wasps nests last year in a couple of places and left them, because 'they don't come back next year'.
This year they're using a different hole.
They're in the flat roof of the garage, and not 'get at able' -so I'm planning to leave them. No one got stung last year, and as Tim says they're a usefull predator -just need to get them to prey upon the local moggies >:(
