Glencoe are well worth growing I paid £10.95 for mine from Chris Bowers & Sons (http://www.chrisbowers.co.uk/raspberries-yellow.php) unfortunately it was killed a couple of weeks ago along with various other fruit & asparugus plants & my fig trees when the idiot who's taken on the next plot decided to spray everything on his plot with sodium chlorate on a windy day. I will be buying another one at some point though as they are very heavy croppers & taste great.

You should be demanding compensation Baccy man!

Particularly stupid herbicide to use...soil won't grow anything for 6 months.

So it's not really a raspberry, as the "black" raspberries are a hybrid with blackberries, aren't they? Maybe not.

My objection to some hybrids, I think I'm thinking of Tayberries, is the caylix that comes off with the fruit. Do these pick like a raspberry or a blackberry?

And how irritating for you, Baccyman!  >:(

Glencoe is a hybrid from Glen Prosen and an unnamed thornless black raspberry, it picks like any other raspberry.

Re: the problem neighbour. I tried the civilised conversation found out he used a ridiculously strong sodium chlorate solution 200g per litre + a splash of farm strength glyphosate (apparently he had been advised it was the only way to kill his perennial weeds). When it came to the subject of the damage to my & another plotholders plants he was less helpful & extremely impolite. So since then I have complained to the council and asked that his tenancy is revoked, I believe several other plotholders have complained about him too. I also got a visit from the police who informed me that somebody has covered his front garden with several tons of fresh chicken manure leaving his mid life crisis car buried under 10' of shite, they seemed to think I might know something about it so I had to waste a couple of hours explaining there is no way I could move 4 lorryloads of manure as I don't have a lorry, I don't drive and besides there were plenty of people on the allotments that day who could confirm I was there at the time the incident occurred.

Serve him right! I've had similar situations when some people on the site took a dislike to me. At one point I had a phone call from the Council about allegations that I'd been round the site supergluing peoples' locks. Fortunately the incident, if there was one (nobody complained round the site that I ever heard), occurred when I was away in Cornwall.

Earlier today I was given a black raspberry which somebody spotted in focus apparently they have quite a lot of other soft fruit in at the moment too. There is no variety name it is just listed as Black Raspberry 'Rubus Nigrum' and costs £4.99 it wouldn't surprise me if it turns out to be Glencoe as there are not many purple/black varieties around.
