Title: What the heck are these??

These are in the roots of a tomato plant I was about to repot - I suspect either slug or snail eggs - any ideas???

Yes.  I would go along with the other posters, slugs/snails eggs.

Rather than just squish them, I would put them in a saucer near the bird feeder.  At this time of year parent birds are looking for natural food for their chicks, and I think they would just love them. ;D

Squish for sure (always seems a shame as they are so perfect - but take no prisoners!)  ;D
