Title: plastic weed covering and slugs!
Post by: rykneld38 on June 11, 2008, 20:27:32
Hello people,
I have got 2 rows of spuds growing through slits made in a plastic weed covering and I was wondering if I am likely to harvest any potatoes or will the slugs have most of them?
Should I just remove the covering now?

Thanks for looking
Andrew

hi, andrew, welcome to the site..we grew spuds through black plastic a few years ago, we got quite a good, if slightly smaller, harvest from them, I think they didn't get enough rain because of the plastic, yours should do better as water can penetrate  ;D

i am going half of my potatoes through semi permiable weed suppresent so they hopefully should get enough water , although they are not as big as those grown normally but these are different variety ..only time will tell
