Title: missing spinach & chard
Post by: Crystalmoon on June 10, 2008, 14:09:34
Hi everyone, I had sown two beds with spinach & chard just before all the dreadful wet weather
(a good few weeks ago now) & only 3 tiny chard seedlings are showing... :-\

I dont know whether to wait abit longer to see if the others have just been delayed or resow, or scrap the idea & use the bed to plant out summer squash that are strong & needing a new home.

Any ideas welcomed thanks  ;D

If it was me I would wait until the seedlings were a little larger(if you still only have 3) and transplant  ,a single plant can grow quite big so three maybe enough and sow spinach again later.

Thanks Markfield I think I will do as you suggest & wait awhile longer then move the chard plants that do grow  ;)

I've had really poor germination this year. Half a dozen in a 10' row! I've resown in the row.

Hi Tim, sorry to hear you've had the same problem.
Checked on the chard today & a couple more seedlings are through but still no sign of the spinach.
Will leave it another week before resowing...hope ypu have a great crop from your recent sowing Tim  ;)
