Title: Painting black plastic buckets
Post by: caroline7758 on June 08, 2008, 10:23:37
I've painted three black plastic buckets (the Morrisons flower buckets) with ordinary emulsion paint. Just wondering whether I should put some kind of varnish on or whether they will last a couple of seasons without. Hasanyone else done this?

Last time I varnished emulsion paint it discoloured, but it may depend on the type of varnish you use.

Now I think about it, gloss paont would probably have been better, but I've only got white gloss and lots of nice bright emulsions, and the idea is not to spend any money!

Caroline,
                I've just paint sprayed one of my water butts, but I have found that plastic needs to have a base or primer before you add the top coat because in some cases the paint will not adhere to the plastic :)

I rubbed the buckets down with sandpaper first.

Mr.S, I never get my hands dirty :P, thanks to latex gloves from the Pound Shop. Took me a while to get used to them but 4 years on I can garden all day and have clean hands to hold me beer in the pub in the evenings 8) ;D

No need to paint bookays... just go round the various DIY stores and get their own brand;
Orange from B&Q
Blue from Jewson
green from Focus.....

Wouldn't you have to pay full price for those, though, rather than around 10 for a quid?
