Just had to research this!!

On this link is a radio programme which has some information and people tasting the stuff

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=9264829

I also found a site which seemed to suggest that in Japan a lettuce variety had been successfully genetically modified to contain the same glycoprotein  the active ingredient which alters the taste buds.

Will research more on that one later.
