Title: Lots and lots and lots and lots potatoes!!!
Post by: Chris Graham on June 03, 2008, 22:01:40
 ::)

Lifted some of my Rocket potatoes that were growing in a bucket (6 seed potatoes planted back in March).

There were loads of them!  Seems planting them close does work well.

Worked out this lot cost maybe £1.50 to grow.

Wow. When did you plant them please? I have got some Maris Bard (I think) in buckets which I put in for Grandson next door. Have also got some in raised bed.
First time I have tried growing spuds.

Super! Isn't it wonderful when things grow as hoped?! Sort of makes up for some of the failures.
Nice looking greenhouse, also.

I've never heard of potatoes with mint. Parsley yes but never mint.

Maybe its just a UK custom to boil new potatoes with a sprig of mint in the saucepan. It does seem to bring out their flavour and complement them well. I remember my grandmother kept a patch of mint just outside her kitchen door, so when my grandfather dug the new potatoes from the garden, she had mint close to hand. I think she grew spearmint. I usually grow apple mint, as it seems to be resistant to mint rust!
