Title: Fund raising questions
Post by: stevie77 on June 02, 2008, 12:42:06
Hello fellow plotties
I have been made secretay of our assoc and am looking at various fund raising ideas and need some advice please

if we had a plant / produce sale of donated goods
1) can we sell to the general public
2) are we limited to how long we can sell for   ie 4 hours a week is what i've been told is okay by the older plotties on site.
3)are there any rules/regs about how much we can charge
4) if we have an open day can we sell stuff then as well

any ideas/thoughts would be welcome  thanks Steve

Hi,

Not sure if you are already aware of this but if you visit:  http://www.farmgarden.org.uk/ari/grants/grant-schemes.html (http://www.farmgarden.org.uk/ari/grants/grant-schemes.html)

You can download a guide to fundraising for allotment associations.

Are you a Council-owned site? If so, ask them. If not, ask your landlord. Basically, each site is going to be different and - as far as I'm aware - there aren't any national rules or laws regulating it. It's built in - or not - to your lease.

But if you intend to open the site to non-members, it might be wise to check with your insurance to see how you stand in case of any accident.

we've just had our annual (only the second year) plant sale, two weekends, starting may day weekend (3 days, 11 to 2 ), following weekend, (2 days 11 to 2), after that, if the gate is open, people can come to buy if there's anything left  ;D
last year, we made 1000 profit, this year, 1300 so we're improving  ;D

We had an NGS open Day yesterday 11-5pm and turned over £860... and £350 two weeks earlier... It is hard work, I was up from 8am-11pm on Sat setting up.

Thanks for the advice. ;D
we are a private site and have a tenancy agreement but it doesn't say anything about selling on stuff.
i have been told we were visited by trading standards a few years ago because one of the shops in the village complained  ??? we were taking his trade hence the 4 hours only a week  :o but others tell me thats no longer right.
it is very confusing. ??? ???
i have been in touch with NSALG but the guy i need to speak to is away till 10th june.
