Title: Collecting Parsnip Seeds..........
Post by: Nobbyman on June 01, 2008, 20:21:16
..............Hi all, another stupid question I know!!  ???

I have let a number of last years parsnips go to flower. Is it worth bothering to collect the seed? And if so what is the best way of doing this?

Yes it is.  Parsnip only crosses with parsnip and round our way, I seem to be the only one who replants a couple of roots for the purpose of seed collecting, ultimately you end up with something suited to your area.

Campbourne - the trick is to get the seed mature and then cut the plant down before it drops the seed all over the place.  You get and ton of seed off each plant.  Select only big roots to go to seed that way you will gradually increase the size and consistency of your crop.
