Title: Garlic problems
Post by: Mr Plot on June 01, 2008, 16:19:33
I have just noticed that most of my garlic has split along the stem and is sprouting new growth!
Others on other plots seem to be doing the same. I was wondering whether it was just due to too much rain recently? Anybody else having similar experience or know the cause?

Could be the rain has accelerated a normal process.
Garlic will divide and separate much like chives or shallots do.
It can all be used though.

In Thailand where it is hot humid and often wet. They harvest both bulbs and the whole cloves which result from this.

Could it be producing flower buds?

Mine just did that and it looked a bit like the stem splitting.

Like Kea, I'd think they're wanting to produce flower buds.....you'll now v. shortly. If so, cut them off & let the remaining growth go back to the garlic.

Thanks I will wait and see. The only garlic not to be a problem is my Elephant Garlic from Czech republic which is very healthy!

That would fit, what with it being a leek...
