I buy half kilo boxes from Boots the Chemist.  Can't remember if it was on the shelves or if I had to ask for it in the pharmacy.

Yes, the old methods are usually as good if not better than some of the high price cleaners.

Bicarbonate of Soda is great for cleaning the toilet, fridge, descaling the inside of vacuum flasks, brings up silver like new.

No nasty after smells and bio friendly.

Fill a used vacuum flask up with boiling water add a teaspoon of bicarb. Leave over night and then empty out.

For silver put a tiny piece of aluminium foil into a dish, one teaspoon of bicarb and dirty silver, cover with boiling water and again, leave overnight.

The two touching metals form an electrical current and the bicarb bubbles off the dirt.

Works great on carpets too.

Sprinkle all over carpets, leave overnight if you can and vacuum up in the morning.

Removes pet smells and tobacco smells.

Georgie,
Interesting that!
I've suffered from gooseberry mildew for 3 yrs. now so sprayed with soft soap & washing soda this year.
Recommended by 'Seymour'. My own fault for not feeding those shallow roots in years past. Will have to dig up & replant this B/E.

Georgie
What kind of soft soap do you use.  I was having a hunt around online last evening and couldn't find anything suitable.  TIA!
