Title: Wild Strawberries
Post by: Pookledo on May 29, 2008, 21:24:01
I planted  some wild strawberries in a seed tray a while ago and they have come up nicely, however they have started sending out runners to make new plants!

What should I do?

It depends.  If you want more plants then anchor the runners into the soil using a bit of wire until they are rooted and then plant them on.  If you want more fruit on your existing plants then cut the runners off.

I bottom part of our town is called Cwmsyfiog which is welsh for valley of strawberries. This year there is a bumper crop of these wild strawberries covering the whole side of the valley. They do spread by sending out trailers I know because I have taken some and replanted further down the valley.
