Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I've joined the site this morning having just taken on my first allotment. It is very overgrown with brambles that are taller than me...! I have slowly been clearing them and doing lots of digging only for the heavy rain to totally flood my plot :'( I have been reading all the advice about drainage and it has given me some much needed hope and ideas, so thank you. I'm sure I'll be posting many questions as i'm very keen but don't really have a clue where to start or what to do.
Looking forward to chatting to you all
Sam
Hello and welcome. You will find all the advice you need here. Good luck with your plot ;D ;D
There is always hope, and all this rain has to be good for something.
Welcome to this site, you find out loads here,no matter how daft a question ask anyway you will get good advice.
Hello Samela.. we cut down loads of brambles taller than me on a plot we haven't let yet... with all this rain they will be back over my head again!!
Welcome to the site.. at least if it is a good clay soil you will be able to dig it, if it had stayed dry much longer you would have needed a pneumatic drill! Good luck with the plot. ;D
Welcome to A4A. We do like to see pics, especially before and after :)
Welcome, samela, and good luck with your plot!
Hi Samela, welcome. You'll find loads of good advice on this site, not to mention a good laugh! Enjoy ;D
hiya, samela, nice to meet you, just a thought, draw a plan on paper, something to work from ;D
Hi Sam and welcome to the madhouse. ;D ;D ;D
Hi Sam,
There are for more qualified folk on here other than me to ask for advice but for what it is worth I was the same last November with an overgrown lotty but what I did was to borrow my mates petrol strimmer and knocked all the weeds brambles and all the other rubbish down(strimmers are easy to use even girls can do it), I then turned it all over for the winter and come spring I used a rotvator I bought of e-bay, I now have a lotty full of veg along woth a few weeds good luck :)
That's a cue for someone else to come along and say DON'T ROTAVATE-IT'LL CHOP UP THE WEEDS AND THEY WILL MULTIPLY!
You'll soon see there are some topics that cause a lot of "lively debate" on here! ;)
Hi Sam Good luck with your plot mine is heavy clay and also had loads of brambles take it slow and easy, don't be detered you 'll get there ;)
Hi and welcome Sameela, good luck with the lottie.
Yeah piccies go down well here, I must get some posted too ::)
Hi Sam,
Welcome and well done getting a plot, you'll be addicted very soon!
Have a look at the pics on my profile gallery - my plot was 6ft high in weeds back in Jan, but have finally got some grub coming through! ;D
A late night Hi from me. :D
Clear a small area and plant something now, so you get some crops this year.
are you allowed fires?if so napalm the brambles saves lots of punctured skin.
good luck and dont be beaten its a contagious bug but so satisfying.
Hi Sam, well you have started in the right place, lots of help here.
Good luck with your plot..
On the bright side, think of all ther lovely bramble jam you will have till you get the ruddy things out !!
XX Jeannine
Hi All,
Thanks sooo much for all the advice already. I feel right at home :) I've added a few pics of my cousin strimming away but all of my pictures are really big so my hubby's going to help downsize them, then i can add some more recent ones.
