Post by: ruud on May 25, 2008, 21:47:41
Today i was on my allotment, haf a little chit chat with my neighbour. He is one of the old locals who have an amount of knowledge about vegetable gardening. We were having a discussion about wenn to fork out the early potatoes,my neighbour said and i believe him.Early ones need 90 days, but he said after 70 days you can milk them,i thought i didnot heard him well so asked him milk, he said yes milk i said you milk a cow not potatoes.Than the old chap explained to me what milking potatoes ment,it is done in dry soil. You put your hand underneath a potatoplant feeling for the big ones, those are pulled of disturbing the plant as less as possible. That is milking a potatoplant he said.Old habbits aint bad at all,so i had a new and lesson in gardening from this old chap.
